I did'nt take the truck down to bare metal. It had two coats of paint over the original red, and I just sanded down to the original. I figure lead base paint will pretty much last forever, so I just left it. I went in and got a enamel primer and used it again after sanding with 340 grit paper. Next week I'll do the topcoat. I'll have to stick with the paint I have as It's already sitting in my shop. No big deal. I'll never own a museum quality truck, which is to say I'll never own one I would'nt want to drive.
I used POR-15 on the chassis. It works good in the sprayer if you thin it down. Dont use it on rotating parts though.
