I have pictures from this years VPW rally of a restored red flatfender (46 ? or 47?)from either Wisconsin or Minnesota with an overdrive unit installed. I have lost the owners contact info however.
I know the truck had the smaller 7.5 wheels from the factory, and so assume it had 4.89 differentials. The engine was a stock 230 with a few doodads the original owner added but all in all it was quite stock and very unmolested when the restorer got it.
Does anyone know the truck I am talking about or where the overdrive unit came from? There was talk that it could do 62 mph at something like 22 or 2400 rpm. Supposedly the kit ran $1800.00 and was written up in the PWA. Gordon doesn't recall when it ran and he doesn't have it indexed yet I think he said.
As I recall the drawbacks were it was suppossed to hang fairly low, and it limited 4wd capability - either because of weakness, or what I can't remember now.
I can send you pics if your memory needs jogging.
