more PTO questions

The pto on my flat fender has a shaft out the front (to winch) and a shaft out the back. I have a spare PTO I've picked up along the way which only has the shaft out one side (front?) and a cover plate on the other side. Are these Pto's interchangable?.....Also, I would like to put the spare PTO on the right side of the tranny and run a hydraulic pump off it but it looks like the front drive shaft would be in the way, and I'm wondering if there needs to be a extra gear in the tranny to run a PTO on the right side or would I be better off running it off the PTO on the left side of the tranny ????
