tranny question .........D.C.?

I have te tranny out of my 48 to fix a small leak and am looking for a solution. On the shift tower towards the engine, there are three holes for the shift rods.(rear ones are plugged) The rods move inside as you shift. In4th,one comes flush to the top. I hve a little weapage coming from them. I do not believe there is a seal inside,am I correct? any way to stop this? Silicone wont be the answer There Is compresion/suction as these move.
