OK. I just went through the same symptoms. My miss was LARGE though. It was more of a hesitation then a miss. Had the same symptoms as Vapor Lock (I live in Phoenix, so temp. is always a concern).
Here are the things that I did before I found the real problem which was trash in the gas tank that would only be picked up under maximum fuel demand.
-Pressuerized fuel tank/lines to check for leaks (actually found one that only showed up under pressure)
-Relocated the fuel supply line in the engine compartment away from exhaust manifold
-Replaced mechanical fuel pump
-Replace coil
-Added electric pusher fuel pump
-Modified extra oil bath air cleaner to accept paper filter instead of oil
-Checked points/condenser/distributer cap
-Checked plugs
None of the above solved the problem so I dropped the tank and pulled the fuel pick up tube. By now the problem occured more often than at peak load (highway speeds). I found the pick up tube almost completly blocked. I have no idea how the thing ran even at low speeds. It is amazing how this stuff gets in the tank. I only put my truck on the road last Christmas and the gas tank had been cleaned and pressure tested for leaks at the local radiator shop. All of the fuel lines were new. The carb had been rebuilt. The only portion of the fuel system that wasn't new when I started to have this problem was the mechanical fuel pump. I found a ton of trash in the fuel tank including a chip of wood that had to be 1/2" around. How in the heck did that get in there?
Hope this helps
