On my last trip I came down a long, very steep canyon. The road is asphalt and quite winding with several offcamber sections. Most of the way Down I had to run in 4 low with the front hub unlocked. The truck just does not have brakes that will stand the load. I was looking at the shifter arrangement for my NP201 and NP205 transfercases. I was wondering if I modified the shifters I can use the low range of the transfer case and keep the front axle disengaged.
It's kind of sad yet nice to have a good road in a favorite canyon. When it was just dirt 4 low was not a problem. Using high range is way too fast in the canyon.
Anyone familar with the internals of the np201 and np205? What happens if I do not engage the front axle and shift into low range?
thanks
Oscar.
