This question concerns a 1960 CJ5 Jeep, but since I also have a 1967 W300 I figured you wouldn't mind.
I am going to replace the front and rear wheel bearings on the Jeep. I've never done this before. I'm not sure what type of grease to use. The service manual I have simply says "repack the bearings with wheel bearing grease." The lubrication chart says to use "Wheel Bearing Lubricant, Grade No. 2" and "Sodium base lubricant recommended; do not mix sodium base and lithium base lubricants."
So, what do I ask for at my local NAPA store?
Also, any tips, suggestions, things to look out for, etc. related to doing this job?
One more question: I am going to replace the brake shoes (drums all the way around). On each wheel, one shoe lining is longer than the other. Does the longer shoe mount toward the front of the vehicle or the rear (my manual is not clear on this)? I'm wary of just copying how the current shoes are mounted because the previous owner has messed up a few things on this Jeeep.
Thanks in advance.
