Motors Auto Repair manuals are probably the best non factory reference books avail
there are a lot listed on ebay today
with the year range of your truck
search motors auto manual or motors truck manual
not very expensive and a good addition to your reference library
you might also try to find the Automotive mechanics series mcgraw-hill (William H Crouse)
find a late 50's print which will have info
pertaining to your vintage vehicle
