I posted this question some time ago and learned that the cable was originally 7/16" with a six foot leader of 3/8" chain and a slip hook. The guys at the rigging shop talked me into going with 3/8" cable instead since I could get a lot more on the spool (we stopped at 250' - there is more room) and more ease of handling. 3/8" is what most 10,000 lb electric winches come with from the factory. It I had it to do all over, I probably would go with the 7/16" cable and about 15' of chain instead. My system cost about $220 to rig with chain, cable, hook, and snatch block.
