A standard, military-issue 60A 28V alternator is the same physical size as the old generator. They are available from the guys that wreck out the unfortunate M151A2 series jeeps. Hookup is very simple, just bolt it on, and run a single large conductor(#6)to the battery post on the starter, and a single #14 to the ignition citcuit to turn it on. The old M37 pulley should fit, too. You can toss the regulator shelf if you wish. I can quote you a complete new wiring loom, with provisions made for the alternator and turn signals, all in 24V.
