GM alternator conversion

A few forums back (my, how they do fly!) there was a discussion concerning GM alternators while performing a 6v-to-12v conversions. Somebody mentioned an alternator I had not seen yet...a sigle wire set-up without the two spade plug on the side. Anyone familiar with this? Thanks!
