Coolant Conundrums

Changed the head gasket Sunday, so I thought I should change the oil and coolant too.

Added the Prestone kit to "back-flush". Two questions occured to me

1)How can you COMPLETELY drain the cooling system? Jack the rear up?

2)I R&R'd the heater outlet valve at the back of the head on the passenger side.

When I took the old one off I discovered a big glob of YECH!PTOOEY (mostly rust) and a piece of steal, about the diameter of a heavy gauge clothes hanger, sitting in the head. The glob came out quite nicely, but the "coat-hanger" was impossible to remove - either because it was attached to something, or because there just ain't no way to get it out that little hole in the head.

What is it? The coat=hanger thingee?
