I asked the same question about gear oil a few forums back. The advise, based on experience, was: SAE 85w140, no brand recommendations. In addition, Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer was recommended, as an additive. I took the advise and everything is fine, after about 150 miles.
My PTO seals are leaking also, but I haven't fixed that yet. I guess I get to change the gear oil again. Please share your experience with this, as it's my next repair job. Do you have to pull the PTO to change the seals? Hate those driveway puddles !
