I use a stamped nut wrench and a screw driver to tighten mine. I tighten mine until I can't turn it anymore. Screw driver is about 15 inches in length. The problem in using a really big wrench is the amount of torque applied before it feels tight (to much). Once you tighten the outter nut with a lot of torque, you are stressing the inner nut applying more pressure to the bearing causing more force to rotate the wheel. If you run your truck this way, you may very quickly seize your bearings. Do this:
- Tighten your bearing until snug using a stamped wrench and a 16 inch bar that will go through the wrench and allow a hand on each side for turning.
- Then back off 1/6th turn. Grab top and bottom of your tire and rock the tire to check for bearing play. There should be none.
- Put your lock on. To line the lock you may have to back off the inner nut - DO NOT TIGHTEN IT TO LINE UP THE LOCK. It's ok to have a little bearing play - Better a little loose than to tight
- Tighten the outter nut the same way.
