Here in Alabama the law was recently change to a very restrictive one. This was and still is a sore spot to all those who freely drove "antique vehicles" now considered "vintage vehicles".
The new law reads basically the same as the old law, that the tag is "permenant and valid without renewal". The sore spot is that the new law says vehicles must be at least 30yo as opposed to the previous 25yo and that these "vintage vehicles" can only be driven to and from shows and a place of repair, and you must belong to and be involved in a club and participate in events ,without the benefit of current "antique vehicle" owners being grandfathered as not restricted to these restrictions.Remember, the now invalid "antique vehicle"tag law said that it was (permanent and "valid" without renewal),just as the new "vintage vehicle"tag law says the same thing. The tag only cost $10 for as long as you own the vehicle and for the first year they said if you volunteerly turned in your old "antique vehicle" tag (which became non-valid according to them) they would swap out for the new "vintage vehicle". If It was no longer valid, why would they try so hard to get people to volunteerly turn over the supposed invalid"antique vehicle"tag. I believe I ,along with others have been decieved and rooked. I believed I was buying a tag that was, permenant and valid without renewal. Had I volunteered and freely given up my "antique vehicle"tag, I would have no legal ground in the future. So for now I just pay $25 a year for a standard tag.
