Not sure how far back you are going, but the WWII 4 to 5 ton 4x4 tractors made by Federal, Autocar and if I recall right White are some of the heaviest used. They came in ragtop and closed cab configuration. A stretched version was also made as a pontoon carrier. FWD made a 4 ton 4x4 cargo truck. Not many were used by the US, but the Brits got some. I'm sure there are others, but I don't have Crismon's book handy at the moment.
