More Gas Tank

There's been a lot of talk about gas tanks lately. My '57 W-100 needs gas tank work too. But the gast tank that's on it looks home-built to me. What is the gas tank suppose to be like for a PG? Mine is behind the driver with filler neck just behind driver's door. The experts here indicate that it should be at the back of the truck with filler neck behind passenger's rear fender. Should I try to fix the existing one or should I try to find one that's more original? Rest of the truck has many non-original parts.
