Bed rebuild on my 58 W-100

Hey y'all,
I'm rebuilding my bed and need a little help.

My first question is what kind of prep should I do to the metal (bed sides) before welding my new angle strips in place?

Also both of my bed sides are a little concave from the old fenders being hit so many times, how can I get them back out to stay? Heat?

My bed front panel has some rot on the bottom lip that supports the wood. I thought I would get some thin angle made up and mig weld it in place after I drill the new holes.

I bought white oak to replace the old wood. I don't care to stain and varnish this bed. But, I thought about some green exterior stain that could be restained in the future, what do you all think I should use??
