A couple of nights ago I was installing the timing gear onto the camshaft of my 230 flathead. As I was tightening the bolts, I felt the resistance decrease, so I removed the gear and took a look at the hub that the gear attaches to. This is the hub that presses onto the camshaft. When I looked at the hub, I found that I had broken one of the "ears" off of it, right across the threaded hole. I wasn't even turning the wrench all that hard at that point.
Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else. Maybe this part is a particularly weak area of the engine?
