The truck you see in the photo you posted is a Genuine Factory built truck! It is called a Sweptside. The Sweptside was produced in limited numbers in '57-59. The Sweptside was also Dodge's first smoothe sided box on a truck as well. The Dodge Sweptside box is a regular stepside box, with the rear fenders taken off, and the tailfin sides are rear quarter panel fenders off a mid '50's Plymouth Suburban Station wagon. The tailgate looks like a standard issue stepside gate BUT, it has a "T" Handle in the middle that works the latch, quite similar to a modern tail gate. Sweptside trucks were built by the SEG or Special Equipment group of Dodge Truck. Also note, Fargo Sweptsides as well as DeSoto Sweptsides were built as well. I personally know of 4 of these trucks in existance, and have seen 3 of them up close. I know of a '57 in TX, a 58 single headlite early model in TN, and I know a guy here in Michigan who has a '57 and a '58. I also have copies of old adds from magazines advertizing Sweptside trucks when they were new. There is a Sweptside registry that is run by Monty Montgomery out of Tx. But yes these trucks are real...
