EX's and Power Wagons

I got the '63 running in the driveway attempting to adjust the Carb float level with the top off the carb and got argueing with the EX- about the boy and and it stalled on me............about 40 minutes later, I realized I left the key on....so I spent the day tracking down the damage I had done. I replaced the points and condenser the the resistor on the firewall........only to find out the coil was bad.......well got that straightened out just got to get the EX figured out and I will be all set . Has anyone ever done this and had the coil burn up or fair just like that?
