Yes there is a safety factor with split rim wheels. But as Mike Stone stated in an earlier post, as long as the guy who is working on the wheel knows what he is doing (a trained professional), takes apart and reassemblies the wheel correctly with the right safety equipment, then there shouldn't be any problem with using split rims. Most likely many of the car and light truck tire dealers will not have the right equipment to do the work. You will most likely need to find a tire dealer that services big trucks, like semi's.
