i am having trouble with the charging system on my 1963 w200
i have been rebuilding a w200,4-speed, wide block 318, r/p 4:88, dana 60
rear, 44f/2 front end with 1ton closed knuckles from a 1963 w200
ambulance, mu2 pto winch, doing it in my spare time, which is hardly any
at all, while being married with 4 kids and a mortage to raise, the
truck gets put low on the list of thing to do.
am real close to finishing the truck now,
just working the bugs out,
i keep frying my voltage regulator on the field side, fuse wire,
i have faithfully re-wired the truck to spec. of the manual,
all guages work great, lights, signals, wipers, heater blower, all work
great but,,, cant get it to charge.
as soon as i turn on the ignition switch the needle dips to the - neg.
side of the gauge and thats all it takes to fry the fuse wire.
i tried to isolate the regulator off the firewall to see if it was
grounding in the case this didnt work either it seems to be a dead
ground between the alternator ?
i swapt the alternator from the ambulance, into my truck and still
burned the fuse wire on the field side, traced wires back and cant find
any shorts in the lines ?????
any hints would be greatly appreciated
