I would go with the 318 conversion mainly
because the engine compartment has a lot
more working room for a V-8 than a WDX-WM300
PW. I would decrease my gear ratio by either
taller tires or changing ring&pinion gears.
The price of new-taller tires and the cost of
ring &pinions for both the front and rear
will be close on cost? taller tires would be
less work but, they would increase the
stress on the axle shafts and clutch. The
good part about using tire size to change
gear ratio is that if you ever needed the
lower gearing for work you could keep the
9:00x16s on a pair of extra rims to quickly
change out.
The 230 and 251 bolt pattern are the same.
