Cant say one is stronger then the other(in my opinion) I guess It depends what is in your budget and what you are comfortable using
The 115 volt mig is good for sheet metal and up to about 1/4 inch think steal in the highest setting....you probably could slow the fead of the wire down and turn the heat up to weld the thicker tuff.
The 220 mig welders can put a big bite on the pocket but also allow you to weld lighter gage steal as well as the thick stuff...........hope this helps
And of course the old BUZZ box is best for the heaver gage steal.
