I'm using a Canon Powershot G2, in short it's been awesome. It can function as a point-and-shoot or has manual overrides. 4.0 megapixel, excellent color, and it has a lot of neat options available for lenses plus a hotshoe for an external flash. I have a friend that's a professional photographer and he uses a Nikon Coolpix 990, it's built like a tank - I think he's taken over 30,000 pics with it so far. Optical zoom is much more useful than digital zoom. Digital zoom simply enlarges the pixels making the photo appear grainy. I bought some 128mb memory cards with a $25 rebate which made them cheaper than most 64mb cards. Watch for rebates and sales, prices vary widely. Get some high capacity batteries too, and a fast charger as the flash will suck the battery down pretty quick.
