I've heard similar good things about the Olympus cameras and the Sony $1K model(I forget the model number) produces amazing images. A friend at work has one and continues to bring me enlarged printed photos that are unbelievable. I'm waiting for the newest model to come out, so that he'll want it and I can buy his "used" camera from him.
Bottom line: Buy the best you can afford. Your guideline should be resolution. (MegaPixels)
