Black Beauty is a Slag Product that comes from Blast Furnaces. Its ground and run through different size screens. Its available in fine, med, course. The bags tell what it is and one night on a Discovery Program about steel, they described the slag products and how they were used it blasting rust and paint etc.
It is not coal dust, that would be very dangerous to breathe and an explosion hazzard.
I use Black Beauty fine in my cabinet and outside on bodies. Medium works great for frames. Black beauty means business and shouldbe used with caution. For many items I use Glass Beads or poly beads.
