The Dodge Sno-Fiter was introduced around 1968-1969. This package was optional on Dodge 4X4. The package includes: a High amp battery and charging system, a larger radiator, The Plow on the Sno-Fiters is a Meyer Hydro turn plow that power angles left and right. The pump is a standard issue Mopar Power Steering pump that has had the resivoir removed. The resivoir is mounted on the left fenderwell and there is a remote control hydralic valve that is controled by 2 levers in the cab. One lever controls up and down, the other, left to right. The package also included cab clearence lights, lights mounted on the plow frame. There is also a Charectoristic tape stripe that runs the leinth of the body line too. Also, as an option on the sno fiters, you could get a wrecker style push bumper too. When the Dodge Ramcharger-Trailduster was introduced in '74, they too could be equipped with the snow fiter package as well.
Some time in 1978-1979 The Sno Fiter name was changed to Sno-Commander. ALso around 79-80, the plow was changed from having a belt driven hydralic pump to an electric. A Charectoristic of Sno Commander trucks is having the name "Sno Commander" decal on the box of the truck.
My first Plow truck and 4X4 Dodge was a 1977 Sno Fiter. it was a W-100 Extended Cab, short box, 318 and out of all things: a column mount shift 3 speed! What an oddball! I scounged up a new front drive shaft and plowed with this beast for 2 years, till the cab literally rotted off the frame!
