Two ton rear differentials are pretty easy to get, they were used in thousands of trucks. The 6.80 ratio was one of the most common ratios around, too. You may want to buy a second rear differential, weld the spider gears and swap it in when you want to go wheeling. Then, you will still have the original, unmolested differential if you want to go back to all original on the W500. You could even swap in a 2-speed rear differential for higher speed highway travel in 2-wheel drive.
