My 1965 327 Chevy engine produces crazy oil pressure on cold engine startup. I use a mechanical gauge, and the oil pressure will spin the needle clockwise all the way to the pin at zero pressure and as the engine warms up, the pressure gradually drops to 10 pounds per every 1,000 rpm. The guys I bought the engine from said it was used as a racing engine, it has a steel crank, hydraulic lifters, double hump camel heads, HEI, and 500 CFM Edelbrock 4B carb., oil element cannister, and I have no idea if it has a stock oil pump, or high volume or high pressure pump. So far, two gauges have been destroyed, and you can see where the current gauge needle rests when the engine is off, although it does work from that point. Any thoughts on what might be causing this is greatly appreciated.
