The center hub protrusion goes towards the trans. Insert 1/2 teaspoon of short fiber grease (when pressed between finger and thumb, and pulled apart, you get fiber looking fingers) or wheel bearing grease into the pilot bushing, do not put it on the end of the trans shaft.
