The Military type distributor starting with the M37 has a vacuum line to suck moisture out of the distributor. If you wanted to use one of these you also have to have an Military oil pump due to the off-set tang. Those civilian distributors with the vacuum advance is better for mileage, it give more advance when cruising than the mechanical and the IGS distributor is better because it has both the traditional mechanical advance and vacuum advance, so when pulling grades you still maintain good advance.
