I have to confess to have used those products before. There were times when a $5 band-aid was necessary, as a $75 radiator job was $70 more than I could afford. Yes, I do remember seeing a similar substance in the coolant.
I still have a little plastic tube of Silver Seal. It actually worked pretty well, for a while.
