I've been putting off removing the exhoust manifold from a 58 315 V8 because I knew with my luck I would end up with studs broken off flush with the block. I torched off one side off the nuts then removed the rest with a chisel. Removed the broken manifold then heated the studs with the torch, applied a candle to the hot metal and proceeded to remove all 5 studs without so much as a wimper. I chased the holes witha tap and ordered new studs. After all this should I try to find the special manifold nuts or will regular nuts work? The 318 LA's had those thick cupped washers on the first and last studs which may be easier to get. Thanks for allowing me to share a good moment in the shop.
