Here are the mirror arms in progress. The hinge brackets are the kind I have on my 1962 WM300, and I like them. The outer arms are made from 3/4" OD DOM tube with an .049" wall. The inner arms are made from 5/8" OD DOM tube with an .049" wall.
I pressed the flats myself with my hydraulic press. In hindsight I would go a little thicker on the inner arm material, maybe .065" or .095", to stiffen the arms at the flats. Also, I would insert two 16 ga shims in the flat (instead of one) to thicken the flat. The shims also shifted in a bit when I drilled the holes. A heavy center punch mark would probably solve that problem.
I was thinking of stealing the arm locks off a set of red mirror arms I have, but I hate to wreck the set. So I'm going to make a set of locks, based on some pictures I've seen. A 1" section of heavy wall tube and a set screw should do the trick.
