Oil filter question for the historians

Does anyone know if the 230's blocks, not fitted with an oil filter from the factory, are the exact same as the ones that come with filters? Basically, if my 56' C-3-PW didn't have the oil filter option, is there anything special I have to do to add one? Wondering if the pressure side galley is somehow restricted as not to put around 40 psi straight into the oil filter canister-- or does it? Thank you. Andy
