I work at a parts store for my "retirement" job and I can tell you the brake pressure switches coming out of China or Vietnam or wherever are junk. We have seen the crimp holding the entire valve together fail because it is not crimped properly.
Also I would agree that DOT 5 is not necessary in your case but I don't think it's causing the failures. The old original switch will probably last.
