For whatever odd reason, that reminded me of what we did to my wife's 1978 Chevy Monza 2+2 Coupe that ordered new and we traded in to a dealership in 1990.

The old headliner was kind soft fuzzy low nap beard stubble type of cloth. A few months before trading in the vehicle, it started coming loose and flapping in the wind. There was no good way to glue it back up so the night before we got rid of it, I tore out all of the cloth headliner and exposed the thick cardboard underlayment, which was covered in hard crumbling glue by this time.

I removed all of the trim around the doors and windows and covered all the cardboard with black contact paper. It looked absolutely terrible with a bubble where every spot of glue was and wrinkles everywhere (trying to cover what amounted to a hemispherical surface with flat contact paper.

I put it all back together, and without planning, it set out in the sun the next day before taking it into the dealership that evening.

When we got in to leave, we found that the heat of the summer day had caused the contact paper to shrink and come loose from the cardboard backing. It was stretched from front to back and from side to side as tight as a banjo string. You could play a base tune on it.

It looked so nice, the salesmen where we traded it in never noticed the bubbafied fix.
