Interesting how much work you are doing. I have a Chevy 327 with a SM420 trans in my WC53 carryall. The only modification was a small cut to make room for the boss that comes off the shift tower on the right side. No other cuts at all. Nothing else was done except that I swapped a late PW center floor and right floor board in as the shift towers on both the SM420 and NP 420 are in a forward position.
My E brake and shift levers are centered in the covers original slots. I also convert to a 2 speed transfer case. I mounted a plate to the side of the SM420 in the holes that mounted its E brake. Then I took the PW lever mount assembly and mounted it to that plate using spacers as needed. I am not sure if I used an early or late PW lever mount (there is a difference in the E brake mounting).
