Selling a 1954 M-170 Ambulance Jeep 1/4 Ton. 20 inches longer than a M38A1.
A total of 4155 were built, produced from 1953-63. A variant of the M38A1 which 100,000 were produced. Last estimate around 300 still out there needing restoration, with a hand full that are completely restored.
This Jeep has had a complete restoration from top to bottom. The floors have been replaced with new steel, factory welding holes drilled out, and re-welded and ribbed like the original floor. Ground up sand blasted, primed, and painted with original colors.
Engine, trans, transfer case, axles, differentials, completely rebuilt to military specs. Complete brake system done, new bearings and seals everywhere. New 24 volt complete wiring harness from Vintage Wiring, all generator and regulator and all new electrical components.
Radiator rebuilt, new hoses and belts, new carb, fuel pump, water pump, everything new. New canvas everywhere. New gas tank, sending unit, new 24V gauges, E-brake cable and shoes. Hard to find driver side real clam shell medical light. No rust anywhere. 5 new tires and rims.
Canvas sides unzip and open up, stretchers can be removed, and canvas seats can be used four people in the back of Jeep. Passenger seat can be removed from windshield and placed forward for the passenger to seat facing forward.
Spare tire holder, spare tire, and Jerry can and axe are bolted in place. All new shocks and wiper pumps, NOS exhaust.
A nice smooth riding Jeep, probably because of the extra 20 inch length on wheel base helps the ride.
Things that need to be finished: wiper blades put on, in-line wiper value shut off and battery hold down frames and bolts to be installed, bolt down the shifting boots, I have all the items to install. I broke my shoulder and the doc says its going to be a long time before I can drive again.
This Jeep needs to be driven, and enjoyed by the owner, and seen by others. Its a great part of history.
