Howard, I turned the core on my radiator 180 so that I could install a 265 flathead. Turning the core gave me about 3 1/2" more room. It's something that a competent radiator shop should be able to do, but you definitely want to send the cowl and U-channel that the radiator is mounted in so that they will line up after alteration. Before you do that though, it would be good to check the thermostat and maybe go for a high flow thermostat as Vaughn suggested.
There was a discussion back in March of this year on radiator turning, subject was "251 spitfire in 52 flatfender" I gave a pretty full description of what I had to do along with links to pictures in my facebook album.
