Let me preface by saying I know little about the M-37 and even less about WC’s. I’ve heard of your ‘official’ reason applied to the M-37 and concur of it offering little, if any, additional protection to the driver. I’ve also heard that the reason for the relocation of the spare on the M-37 was to increase cargo space in the bed.....But it always comes back to why the driver’s door. I’m thinking possibly for the ease of entrance and exit of passengers that were potentially of higher rank than the lowly driver.
Now ,looking at images of WC’s (on my phone, small) it appears to me that the passenger door was never intended to open. Knowing little, I’m not aware of any closed cab WC’s. Either way, seems to me a bit of a safety concern. Possibly issue was addressed on M-37B with swing-out carrier due to closed cabs.
As said...I know little. Just thoughts. I’m a Vietnam Army vet. Never got a real answer then and haven’t since. I’ll have to start attending military shows.
