Correct PW bed for 1952?

I found a local gent who has this bed/trailer in his yard, but I'm away overseas right now without solid measurements to see if its indeed an 8ft length. He uses it for mulch and rock, so how do 'good ol' boys' make a bottom for it? Plate steel? i wonder if there is a chance that the original wood and strips are still there? Has the tailgate for it as well...
