Hi guys! Installed Driver's side new Door Latch and remote tonight. All the slop is gone, but (in the words of my 6 year old daughter) "sometimes new parts are TOO much better" -
I realized that the old door latch had been shaved down on the outer half. The new latch (without such modification) will close tight as a drum but will not unlatch without a little "gentle" assistance from a screwdriver.
Two questions:
I assume I need to follow the instructions in the body manual for warped doors on the bottom door hinge, I also have new hinge pins too, figure those might help. Any other thoughts or things to check? I tried adjusting the striker itself, but that doesn't seem the right solution.
Second question: How much of the latch itself is supposed to engage the striker on the body? Both DS and Pax look like it's only about 1/4 of the entire surface of the latch, nowhere near 100%. Are there shims to increase the contact area? Should I care? When working, they don't seem prone to slipping or anything.
Yes. I have to work on cans sometimes.
