This is a little off Power Wagon topic but I was offered a great deal on a 1948 stainless steel Fruehauf trailer in Temecula CA area for $1500. Ive been looking for one for years for behind my Autocar but always too far away or whatever. So I jumped on it & bought it. I was told it needed new tires & I could see from the pics that at least one air brake chamber had no air hose & so I was pondering how to get it 1500 miles home.
First I was trying to figure a way I could tow it. I mean I could physically tow it home with my dually but the first scale I pass theyll lynch me because theyll know I have no brakes. So I could buy a truck with air brakes & sell it when I get to Canada but Id still need to buy tires & probably should make the brakes operable. Lotta work.
So I called several trucking companies. Just forget itgonna cost $10k The issue was height. Cant put it on a trailer because it would be over height.
So I called a couple of ATHS guys to see if any will tow it if I get tires. Nobody will risk their licence without it being fully sound & thats difficult with me not being there.
So I gave up 3rd party help & headed south.
Took 6hrs to load & a few bleeding knuckles but went smooth & got it home safe. Was a little scary going under a few overpasses as it was 136 tall at the rear.
Heres a few pics
