I can't imagine this hasn't been discussed before but I can't find anything on the web or in the archives.
What are the differences between the carrier from the 741/742/489 car 8.75 third member vs the PW carrier?
Obviously a PW ring and pinion would need to be used and the side gear spline counts are different, but will a 489 carrier take a PW ring gear and bolt into the PW third member?
I (and I'm guessing most) don't need an ARB and putting a lunch box locker into a PW carrier looks like a PITA and still costs a fair amount of money. I'd much prefer a torsen/true-trac style for the simplicity, added off road traction and good on-road manners. They are made by several manufactures already for the car third members and if the only difference is the spline count I would think getting a custom run would be easier with fewer needed. And in stock form at least they're 1/2 the price of an ARB and don't need an air system.
