Starter: studs vs. bolts

In disassembly of a 52 FFPW, I noticed that the original starter used (2) studs for mounting. However, my 43 WC52 uses (2) bolts. Is there a reason why one may be superior to the other? Maybe studs were used due to the limited space in the nose cone?
