I really appreciate all of the comments and suggestions.
My original concern was whether or not I could use a vacuum bleeder successfully without the drums in place. I was only interested in having full view of the wheel cylinders while vaccuum bleeding. As a precaution I will put the drums on.
My truck is a 1946 WDX. No vacuum booster involved.
