Based on Clint's comments many years ago, I got 7/16" cable, a 1/2" monkey fist clamp (plentiful on line because ex- military) and ordered a small pamphlet on line on the Flemish eye and other rigging.
When I wove the Flemish eye, it increased the diameter of the cable enough that the 1/2" monkey fist clamp worked well.
Using the winch over the years, I have pulled up logs from a ravine on my farm including a LARGE white oak one. The clamp held fast.
Of course I observed all the safety advice on using it.
